In the middle of every night, do you suddenly wake up choking
and gasping for air? It can not be due to a nightmare every
night. You definitely need to look into the matter as you might
be suffering from a sleep disorder known as Sleep Apnea.

In the night, does your snoring often make your partner wake up?
And in the mornings, are headaches and a dry mouth regular
occurrences? As soon as you experience these symptoms, its time
to see a doctor, you may be suffering from Sleep Apnea!

Sleep Apnea is a type of sleeping disorder. The word “apnea” is
a Greek word, it’s meaning, “want of breath”. Sleep Apnea is a
disorder that causes disruption of breathing during sleep. Your
breathing either becomes slow or stops completely during sleep.
The frequency of disruption can range up to 20 times in an hour.
The duration of disruption can last up to 20 seconds, bringing

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a widely
prevalent type of sleep apnea. It’s caused when your airway gets

around the base of tongue. When the airway gets obstructed, it
lowers the level of oxygen in the blood and leads to a condition
known as hypoxia. It also elevates the blood pressure and
increases stress on your heart. These conditions prevent the
patient from entering into sound sleep. This makes a person
suffer from lack of quality sleep. A person suffering from
Obstructive Sleep Apnea snores in the night and wakes up choking
several times and tries desperately to sleep again.

Central Sleep Apnea Central Sleep Apnea is not common. It is
marked by a brain signal flaw. In Central Sleep Apnea, the
brain’s signals instructing the body to breathe get flawed. As a
result of this delayed signal to breathe, throat breathing,
abdominal breathing and oral breathing cease simultaneously.
Though the duration of interruption lasts a few seconds, it
lowers the oxygen supply to blood and tissues significantly. A
person suffering from central sleep apnea experiences high blood
pressure, irregular heart beat and even heart stroke.

Mixed Sleep Apnea Mixed Sleep Apnea is a condition characterized
by a person experiencing the combination of symptoms of the two
Sleep Apnea conditions– Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Central
Sleep Apnea.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is highly prevalent and common in people
suffering from Sleep Apnea disorder. Let’s look deep into the
symptoms, causes and treatments required for Obstructive Sleep
Apnea.

Causes There can be several causes that lead to the obstruction
of your airway passage during sleep, leading to Obstructive
Sleep Apnea. One of the major reasons is that your throat
muscles and tongue relax and shrink excessively than normal.

If you are overweight, the soft tissue in your throat can become
stiff and enlarged and causes obstruction in the airway passage.
The other reasons could be increased size of your adenoids and
tonsils, which further contribute in the disruption of flow of
air.

Symptoms The common symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea are
choking and gasping for air several times in the night. Snoring
loudly is also among a number of symptoms of Obstructive Sleep
Apnea. If you suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea, you would
experience sleepiness during the daytime as well. You would not
be able to concentrate and would suffer from dry throat and
headache in the mornings. Among other symptoms are rapid weight
gain, lethargy, high blood pressure, and lack of concentration
and even depression.

Treatments There are many treatments available for Obstructive
Sleep Apnea. The common ones are losing weight, avoiding alcohol
consumption during the evening and sleeping on your side.
Medical treatments include Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
(CPAP) and Oxygen Administration. Surgeries are also performed
and tracheostomy is a surgery used in treatment of severe Sleep
Apnea conditions.

Customer Review: Not Bad.BUT.
This book was OK but I have a few complaints that really bothered me. First, it’s written in almost too easy to read language (5th grade-ish). Second, some of the illustrations are laughable (lifting soupcans). Third, the references to training programs that coincide with cars (SUV training, Truck training.). Fourth, too many stories about Joe So-and-so (who did this and that) to illustrate points.

From chapter 3 up until the chapter titled, “Your Exercise Prescription” I was pleased, but the points I mentioned leave a somewhat bad taste in my mouth.

It is important that you exercise and keep fit especially as you
grow older because it will greatly improve your health. Fitness
is just as important for the disabled although exercises will
have to be adjusted to suit.

Physical activity is just as important a part of a weight loss
program as eating the right food. A growing number of women are
overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese increases your
risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure,
stroke, breathing problems, arthritis, gallbladder disease,
sleep apnea (breathing problems while sleeping), osteoarthritis,
and some cancers.

It is not just how much “fat” you have but also where it is
located. “Pear” shaped women, have a tendency to store fat
around the hips and buttocks whilst “apple” shaped women store
fat around the waist. There is greater concern for women with an
“apple” shape because of carrying extra weight around their
waists. A waist larger than 35 inches raises health risks, for
example heart disease, diabetes or cancer. You can work out your
body shape by measuring your waist and hips in inches and then
divide your waist measurement by the hips measurement. A result
of 0.8 or higher generally indicates an “apple” shape woman.

Exercise helps you to lose fat and build strong bones and
prevent osteoporosis. It has been found that bone density is
lost when weight loss is achieved through dieting alone.
Exercise not only helps to prevent bones from breaking but also
makes the body stronger and improves balance, and so helps to
prevent falls. Though care has to be given when exercising, it
is also important to ensure that the body has enough nutrients
to build muscle otherwise minerals could be leeched from the
bone and so make the bones weak. Therefore it is outstanding not to
exercise on an empty stomach.

Exercising provides a lot of benefits to the body such as:-

· help to reduce anxiety, depression, and improve moods

· help to control stress

· help to control weight

· provide innumerable energy · help with sleeplessness

· help you look better.

To reduce the risk of injury you need to do a slow aerobic
warm-up, then stretch before any aerobic or strengthening
activities. An aerobic activity is an activity that speeds up
your heart and breathing while moving your body at a regular
pace. If you have been inactive for a while you will need to
start slowly and gradually build up the pace without hurting the
body.

Before starting any sort of exercise routine make sure that you
talk to your health care provider especially if you have any of
the following:-

· have or at risk of heart disease or a stroke

· have or at risk of diabetes

· are obese

· have an injury such as a knee injury

· older than 50 years

· are pregnant

The foremost way to stay fit is to have a well-rounded workout plan,
which combines aerobic activity, muscle-strengthening exercises,
and stretching. The ideal plan is to do at least 30 minutes of
moderate physical activity three of four times a week, adding
muscle-strengthening activities to your aerobic workout two to
three times a week. Exercise is not just for weight loss but is
an important part of keeping and centraltaining a healthy body.

Acne

Drink some radish juice with sugar added to it.

Asthma

Drink a cup of black coffee, the warmth will break up the flem
and the caffeine will help to remove tightness from the chest
and throat.

Add 30-40 leaves of tulsi in one liter of water, strain the
leaves and drink the water throughout the day.

Anaemia

Eat 2-3 apples daily without peeling to increase the iron stores
in the body.

Intake of beet juice is highly beneficial for the anemic
person’s.

Backache

Drink some hot milk or water with powdered sonth, meetha soda,
and salt.

Massage the back with turpentine oil.

For temporary and quick allayment heat can be applied at the back
with hot water bottle.

Common cold

Drink a cup of water with a few drops of garlic oil and a
teaspoonful of onion juice.

Rub the chest and throat with camphor water or oil.

Drink honey and lemon juice in hot water to get alleviation from sore
throat.

Constipation

Drink a tablespoon of corn syrup in a cup of water.

Drink a glass of prune juice to facilitate bowel movement.

Drinking a cup of coffee will also provide assuagement from
constipation.

Eczema

Mix one teaspoon of camphor and one teaspoon of sandalwood to
form a paste and apply on the affected e areas.

Drinking Aloe Vera juice will help cleanse the system.

Hair loss

Wash hair with peppermint or spearmint tea to prevent hair loss
and to promote hair growth .

Wash hair with white vinegar periodically to prevent falling of
hair.

High blood pressure

Mix half onion juice and half honey. Take 2 tablespoons once a
day for 1-2 weeks.

Eat two cloves of garlic every early morning.

Eat one Papaya on an empty stomach daily for a month.

High blood cholesterol

Drinking onion juice daily for a week will lower the blood
cholesterol.

Eat a few garlic cloves every day to reduce blood cholesterol.

Indigestion

Drink aloe vera juice, papaya juice, or chamomile, comfrey, red
raspberry, or peppermint tea.

Drinking a glass of water with a tablespoon of baking soda will
provide immediate balm.

Obesity

Eat 10 fresh curry leaves in the early morning for three or four
months.

Drink a cup of water with 3 teaspoons limejuice, one-fourth
teaspoon powdered black pepper, and a teaspoon of honey every
day for three months.

Eat freshly sliced tomatoes with onion and lemon juice.

Drink lemon juice with honey and warm water every morning.

Sore throat

Gargle every hour with vinegar water or salt water.

Drink hot milk with honey at bedtime for immediate assistance from
sore throat.

A teaspoon of honey will provide alleviation from sore throat.

Stress

Chewing 12 tulsi leaves twice a day, morning and evening is the
highly beneficial treatment of stress.

Various seeds such as alfalfa, sunflower and pumpkin are highly
