HERBAL MEDICINE Herbal
Medicine, sometimes referred to as Herbalism or Botanical
Medicine, is the use of herbs for their therapeutic or medicinal
value. An herb is a plant or plant part valued for its
medicinal, aromatic or savory qualities. Herb plants produce and
contain a variety of chemical substances that act upon the body.
Herbal medicine is the oldest form of healthcare known to
mankind. Herbs had been used by all cultures throughout history.
It was an integral part of the development of modern
civilization. Primitive man observed and appreciated the great
diversity of plants available to him. The plants provided food,
clothing, shelter, and medicine. Much of the medicinal use of
plants seems to have been developed through observations of wild
animals, and by trial and error. As time went on, each tribe
added the medicinal power of herbs in their area to its
knowledgebase. They methodically collected information on herbs
and developed well-defined herbal pharmacopoeias. Indeed, well
into the 20th century much of the pharmacopoeia of scientific
medicine was derived from the herbal lore of native peoples.
Many drugs commonly used today are of herbal origin. Indeed,
about 25 percent of the prescription drugs dispensed in the
United States contain at least one active ingredient derived
from plant material. Some are made from plant extracts others
are synthesized to mimic a natural plant compound. The World
Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people, 80
percent of the world population, presently use herbal medicine
for some aspect of primary health care. Herbal medicine is a
major component in all indigenous peoples’ traditional medicine
and a common element in Ayurvedic, homeopathic, naturopathic,
traditional oriental, and Native American Indian medicine. WHO
notes that of 119 plant-derived pharmaceutical medicines, about
74 percent are used in modern medicine in ways that correlated
directly with their traditional uses as plant medicines by
native cultures. Major pharmaceutical companies are currently
conducting extensive research on plant materials gathered from
the rain forests and other places for their potential medicinal
value. Substances derived from the plants releading the basis for a
large proportion of the commercial medications used today for
the treatment of heart disease, high blood pressure, pain,
asthma, and other problems. For example, eph
edra is a herb used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for greater
than two thousand years to treat asthma and other respiratory
problems. Ephedrine, the active ingredient in eph
edra , is used in the commercial pharmaceutical preparations
for the abatement of asthma symptoms and other respiratory
problems. It helps the patient to breathe in addition easily.

Another example of the use of a herbal preparation in modern
medicine is the Black cohosh . Originally used by the Indians of North
America for dealing with such maladies as malaise, rheumatism,
aches, pains, gynecological problems, as well as a host of
others, Black cohosh gained popularity with European settlers. It
was used throughout the nineteenth century as a home remedy for
ailments common to both males and females. The popularity of the
plant spread to Europe, where it is still used extensively
today. Interest in the United States had been growing in the
recent years from the reported success stories from the use of
herbs. For example, St
. John’s Wort is widely used in the treatment of mild
depression. St
. John’s Wort does not have the side effects. There are some
Ayurvedic herbs that are very useful for reducing cholesterol , diabetes etc. Similarly the
popularity of Ginseng and Gin
It strikes one in four North Americans without warning it triples your risk of dying from a heart attack it increases your risk of stroke sevenfold it can lead to kidney disease, diabetes, and blindness and to fight it, you may be taking expensiveand dangerousdrugs. Now Dr. Julian Whitaker, a leading champion of nutritional medicine unleashes a new weapon in the war against hypertension.

Customer Review: Good advice, Bad heart (greedy)
This book seems be based on research done by other doctors who do not own a supplement company.

I bought this book because I could not get good advice on supplements from my doctor.

The advice is very good, although copied, but the supplement advice points the reader toward the Whitaker Institute, which seem to do larger research on how to sell vitamins for in addition moeny than research on curing heart disease

The supplements sold by Dr. Whitaker’s company are much higher priced than the exact same supplements sold by other reputable supplement comapanies like Puritan’s Pride, The vitamin Shoppe, Swansons vitamins etc.

I prefer other books on this subject sold by amazon, particulary one written by Dr. Houston, who runs a hospital research institute and does not own a supplement company.

I find it hard to believe the advice on supplements from a man who is charging triple prices for the supplements that he reccomends in his book.

You’ve probably heard it a hundred times before but I will say it again, incidental activity is very important in the process of losing weight as you can burn massed calories than relying on dietary means alone.

Fat is burned from the body when cells oxidize to release energy in the form of exercise or movement. When the exercise is done slowly to moderately then the majority of energy is taken from the fat stores.

The loss of fat comes from fat cells all over the body, not from one or major specific area’s so spot reduction of a certain area is not possible. The cardinal priority of this article is to show you the quickest and safest way to lose fat from the body.

The key to active aerobic training that burns off the maximum amount of fat is long-term consistency not intensity. It doesn’t matter if you run a mile, jog a mile or walk a mile you will burn exactly the same amount of calories.

The incomparable exercise by far for the purpose of fat-loss is fast walking either indoors on the treadmill or outdoors. What many don’t know is that walking produces a greater percentage of fat loss as opposed to jogging or running. Other aerobic activities are the treadmill, bike, climber or any other training gear found in or out of the gym.

Walk or exercise until you are mildly puffing and hold that rate until the allotted time. If your aerobic activities leave you panting or breathless, your going too hard, your energy is coming from your carbohydrate reserves and not from your fat stores. Try fast walking for one hour a day every day of the week if you are able.

Here are some of the benefits of Fast Walking.

· Easy to Perform
· Most Conventional
· All Natural Body Movement
· Doesn’t Cause Injuries
· Can Be Done Anywhere
· The Best Minimal Effort Exercise for Fat Loss

Research shows that regular, fast walking is one of the optimum exercises we can do for overall fitness. It suits people of all ages and fitness levels, it’s easy to get started and there’s no complicated technique to learn or equipment to buy.

Fast walking is an excellent way to get fit because it uses nearly all the muscles and, as you have to carry your body weight, you can get a good workout from it.

It’s also safer on the joints and the back than most other forms of exercise because you’re not jumping up and down, so the impact is low.

Studies have shown that taking a daily 20-minute walk can reduce the risk of heart attack as much as 50%, it also reduces high blood pressure and helps to burn fat to keep weight under control.

Fast walking and other weight bearing exercises (Strength training) helps to increase bone mass, which protects against osteoporosis and bone fractures.

In the first two weeks, go for a 20-minute walk every other day and then increase this to 40 minutes. At first try to do five 20-minute walks per week totalling 100 minutes a week. Once you get used to the regular exercise, increase this to 40 minutes for five times a week.

You can then gradually increase this as you see fit, if you want to walk every day for 40 minutes or even an hour so be it. Remember the extra you walk the heavier fat that will be burned off. The matchless pace for fitness training will make you slightly breathless, but you should still be comfortable and be able to carry on a conversation.

As you get fitter, you’ll want to stretch a little harder to keep your heart rate up. Try lengthening your strides, increasing your pace. Keep your shoulders back, your chest lifted and your tummy pulled in when you walk, hold your head up for open, easy breathing.

Practical Tips.

· If your feeling stressed, try counting your steps repeatedly from one to ten as you walk, this helps some people achieve a meditative effect and can be a great tension reliever when practiced over a full 40 minutes.

· Time yourself, measure the distance or increase the gradient to make the workout innumerable challenging. Drink plenty of fluids during and after your walk.

· Make safety your first consideration. Don’t walk after dark except in well-lit, busy places. Start the walk slowly, and then gradually increase the pace.

So, go ahead in all other activities try to move, move, move. Try parking the car further away from your destination so you can walk the extra distance, hide all your remote controls so you have to get up and change the channels manually. These all help burn those extra calories and body fat from your frame.

What is Obesity?

Obesity means an excessively high proportion of body fat.
Overweight refers to an excess of body weight, but not
necessarily body fat. Health professionals use a measurement
called body mass index (BMI) to classify an adult’s weight as
healthy, overweight, or obese. BMI describes body weight
relative to height and is correlated with total body fat content
in most adults. Generally, the higher your BMI, the higher your
health risk, and the risk increases even further if your waist
size is greater than 40 inches for men or 35 inches for women.

People who are overweight or obese are massed likely to develop
heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes,
gallbladder disease, and joint pain caused by excess uric acid
(gout). Excess weight can also cause interrupted breathing
during sleep and wearing away of the joints (osteoarthritis).
Carrying extra weight means carrying an extra risk for certain
types of cancer, including endometrial, breast, prostate, and
colon cancer.

Losing Weight

Most overweight people should lose weight gradually. Sometimes,
people with serious health problems associated with obesity may
have legitimate reasons for losing weight rapidly. If so, a
physician’s supervision is required. Experts recommend that
people who are overweight or obese should concentrate on
engaging in regular physical activity and controllingtaining healthy
eating habits.

See your doctor for advice about your overall health risk and
the weight loss options that are nonpareil for you. Together, decide
whether you should go on a moderate diet or whether other
options might be appropriate. Check with your doctor and make
sure that your health status allows lowering your caloric intake
and increasing your physical activity.

Successful weight loss and healthy weight management depend on
sensible goals and expectations. Doctors, dieticians, and other
experts agree that the leading way to lose weight is to eat fewer
calories and increase your physical activity. Follow a
calorie-reduced balanced diet that provides for 1-2 pounds of
weight loss a week. Be sure to include at least five servings a
day of fruits and vegetables, along with whole grains, lean meat
and low fat dairy products. Make time in your day for some form
of physical activity. Walking is an excellent form of physical
activity that almost everyone can do. In addition to helping to
control weight, physical activity decreases the risk of dying
from coronary heart disease and reduces the risk of developing
diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers.

Abstract: Alternative Blood High Medicine Pressure
Tag: Alternative Blood High Medicine Pressure

People who are young and healthy rarely think of taking dietary
supplement, but when illness hits or age progresses, with its
attendant health problems and lack of energy, the search begins
for a dietary supplement that might provide that long sought for
holy grail, eternal youth.

No dietary supplement can provide that, but with the assiduous
use of vitamins and minerals, we can often achieve optimum
health for our age group and certainly ease the symptoms of
diseases we may suffer from.

Dietary supplements can be divided into two major types;
nutritional, (vitamins and minerals and amino acids) and
botanical (herbal types).

But is it really necessary for someone who is young and healthy
to take dietary supplements? You may consider that your diet is
healthy enough, but vegetables and dairy food can only be as
good as the soil in which they are grown and many farmers will
agree that their soil is worn out. Why else do they have to add
chemical fertilizers at ever increasing rates? If the soil were
farmed organically, instead of with an eye to profit all the
time, it would be in much better health and so would we.

Another point to consider is the freshness (or otherwise) of the
products we buy. Most vegetables are at least a week old by the
time they get to our homes. Although many are kept in cool
storage, this length of time causes the nutritional value to
greatly decrease. Fruit is often picked before ripe and put into
cold storage for weeks or months, then when it is needed, hit
with a gas to make it ripen quickly. This gas is supposed to be
safe in small amounts, but it is carcinogenic.

Some dietary supplement exponents declare lack of magnesium to
be a major cause of high blood pressure. People who have found
the usual blood pressure medications to cause extended discomfort
than they cure tried out magnesium supplements and in some cases
were able to stop using their prescription medication entirely
within two months. Of course, you should never do this without
consulting your health care professional.

There are some people who claim that dietary supplements do
nothing but give us expensive urine. That may be true if you
have a super healthy diet and are therefore less likely to be
lacking in vitamins, but health-care professionals are
increasingly advising extra supplements for those under stress
such as illness, pregnancy, or periods of sudden growth spurts.

If your tongue is inflamed and you suffer from loss of appetite,
shortness of breath, are irritable, forgetful and mentally
sluggish, you may have a folic acid deficiency. Folic acid is
one of the B group of vitamins and most animal and plant foods
are poor sources of it. The exception is liver which most people
don’t eat a lot of these days. Some habits and diseases like
celiac disease, alcoholism and irritable bowel syndrome, also
play a major part in causing a deficiency of this vitamin, so if
you suffer from any of these problems, ask your doctor if you
need a supplement.
